This 3-day course has been developed specifically for engineers and technical officers who require a detailed understanding of the detection and classification of damage in composite components.
An appreciation of the constituent materials and lamination of a composite component is addressed, as this is essential knowledge when assessing composite structures with NDI. Manufacturing processes also contribute to the details of laminate through-the-thickness characteristics and is briefly reviewed.
Simple NDI assessment, with practical demonstration and application, will allow basic description of the damage characteristics. Recording and reviewing the initial NDI data will be discussed in some detail. More detailed damage assessment techniques are then discussed and demonstrated. The detailed NDI assessment via ultrasonics will allow internal damage to be characterised for later damage analysis. Other NDI methods will be discussed during the course. NDI standards and procedures will be covered to conclude the course content.
Course participant will acquire a thorough understanding of what type damage is found in composite structures, how to identify the damage and what level of assessment and engineering disposition needs to follow.
